Countrywide manhunt for teenage murder suspects
In 2019, I was on the ground in northern Manitoba to cover the manhunt for teenage murder suspects Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmegelsky. My reporting started when the bodies of a young American woman and her Australian boyfriend were found along the Alaska Highway in a remote part of Canada. The puzzling killings fuelled suspicions a serial killer was on the loose — something police staunchly denied before a third person was killed and the manhunt began.

Lucas Fowler, a 23-year-old from Australia, and his American partner, Chynna Deese, 24, of North Carolina are found dead in a mysterious double homicide in northern British Columbia. I speak to Deese's mother Sheila for The National and one of the last people to see the couple alive.
